GO and WHOA Foods - Video

GO and WHOA foods are the focus of this video. Teaching children about GO and WHOA foods effectively communicates the concept of “eating in moderation” to very young children (5 years old or younger). Many of us might naturally classify foods as either good or bad; however, thinking of foods in this way can lead to an unhealthy view of foods. For example, there might be a sense of guilt associated with eating “bad” foods, or even a greater desire to eat something that is “bad.” To teach against this, we use the terms GO and WHOA foods in ChildcareAlive! activities.

Strive to teach children that ANY food can fit into a healthy diet, but it is best if some foods are eaten more often than others. Repeat the phrases “a lotta GO” and “a little WHOA” to help children remember this concept.
