Dairy foods include milk, yogurt, cheese, and cottage cheese. The benefits of these foods to young children are numerous, including providing the protein, calcium, and vitamin D needed to build strong bones and teeth.
In this activity, children will learn some foods from the dairy group and participate in making a healthy recipe (yogurt parfait).
(Please note: according to Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) guidelines, many dairy foods are categorized as meat alternates. ChildcareAlive! follows the guidelines used by MyPlate (www.choosemyplate.gov), which categories foods such as yogurt and cheese as dairy foods).
