Get on the Whole Grain Train
Nutrition and health experts often proclaim, "Make half your grains whole." What exactly are whole grains, and why are they better than other grains? Whole grains are made from the entire grain seed (including the endosperm, bran, and germ), while other grains (called refined grains) have the bran and germ removed, decreasing protein, fiber, and several other important nutrients.
In this activity, children will know that whole grains are healthier for us than other grains, and will participate in making a healthy recipe.
