Preparing and Tasting New Foods - Video
This video features a simple cooking activity with a mixed-age group of children. The recipe used in this video is for a fruit smoothie, which is suggested in the ChildcareAlive! Activity called “Trying New Foods.”
It is highly encouraged during ChildcareAlive! cooking activities to include all children in the recipe preparation, adjusting tasks as necessary for varying skills and abilities. It is recommended to make the smoothie in groups of about 10 or less. The more kids you have, the more you will need to divide the tasks so everyone has a chance to participate (i.e., allowing for 2-3 children to add a scoop of strawberries or yogurt.) The strategies and language demonstrated during this recipe can be applied to other cooking activities as well.
